Weifang

Weifang

Located between the famous lands of Qingzhou and Laizhou, Weifang had been one of the more prosperous towns in Shandong. Followed by the construction of the Qingdao-Jinan Railway and the Fangzi Coal Town, the strategic importance of Weifang rapidly rose as the key transit point between the Shandong Peninsula and Inland, eventually leading to its promotion into the provincial capital of the new Shandong Province.

But to the world, Weifang is more known for having the largest 'Civilian Assembly Center' in China. Formerly a Presbyterian mission compound called the 'Courtyard of the Happy Way', it was repurposed by Japan later to detain the foreign 'prisoners'. Even after the prisoners were released under the armistice between the Axis and the Allies, the compound continues to serve Japan's interest, and rumors about disturbing noises from the buildings have never ceased.

Today, Weifang stands still as the regional center of the Shandong Peninsula, second only to the Special Municipality of Qingdao. Amidst the crowds in and out of the city, the occasional mobilizations of Japanese soldiers in the city are particularly noticable- though no one seems inclined to investigate beyond mere curiosity.
