Kawasaki

When men worldwide speak of Japan's cities in the Greater Tokyo Area, they delight in recounting the bright lights and busy streets of Yokohama or Tokyo proper. Few, if any, have anything to say of Kawasaki, and even the Japanese themselves would struggle to describe the city's achievements.

Kawasaki is a land of missed opportunities. Although long-settled since the 4th Century, the modern city was only formally declared so in 1924 and has spent those decades stagnant and overlooked. Pincered between Tokyo and Yokohama, the city mixes its own dense industrial smog with those from outside, shadowing its citizens in some of the worst pollution in Japan.

Opportunity in the densely packed city is rare, but one name keeps Kawasaki relevant in Japan and beyond: Fujitsu Limited. Founded and still headquartered in Kawasaki, Fujistu's lights shine ominously through the New Order's fog.
