Windhoek

Windhoek

The Germans juggled and plotted for so long to once again swallow southern Africa with its grim purposes — the Schild was the apex of this fascist insanity, an unfortunate monstrosity put down by the collective will of the Free World. The mandate of South West Africa's abolishment was the gravest insult to the British foothold in the Dark Continent. However, with it once again under the old order — this time, the mistakes of the past will not repeat, Windhoek will be recognizably South African, and the native landscape shall heal under the guidance of their saviors.

Windhoek became barren after the evacuation of German contractors and capital. Nothing more than a litter of impoverished citizens and rugged gravel remains in this scarce landscape. In an attempt to keep this regional administrative center functional, the South African regime relied extensively upon the humanitarian assistance of the American government, both to contain the anarchy that the city transformed into and to keep its inhabitants from starvation. Consequently, the perimeters of the metropolis appear more as if slums constructed from foreign materials than proper settlements — a shape more reminiscent of abject poverty than even the worst of Germany's excesses.

The Namib is a place capable of birthing resilience, no matter how long this 'provisional rule' may last. The residents of Windhoek remain aware in their hearts that they've managed to endure German colonialism for so long — the paternalist Anglos are a trial that they merely must endure again, a phase that may provide them the constitution to survive the future.
