As the IJA approached Chongqing, the last bastion of Chiang's Kuomintang, Wanzhou shielded the capital of the Republic from its north flank. The battle for Wanzhou lasted seven bloody days; nearly every able-bodied man and woman joined the NRA forces in fighting the mighty IJA to stop IJA's advancement into Chongqing. Tens of thousands of lives were lost as the city was soaked in blood, yet what awaited the defenders was the order to surrender. It was betrayal.
The betrayal was never forgotten by those who survived that battle. People of Wanzhou resent the collaborationists who wag their tails to their Japanese masters, but who they hate more are the people who left their sacrifice in vain - the Chiangite Kuomintang and their remanent in Guizhou. To them, China must be liberated, but never under the emblem of blue sky and white sun.
