Kaifeng

Kaifeng

One of the Eight Ancient Capitals of China, Kaifeng has had a long and glorious history to her name. Emerging from the chaos of the Warring States Period, Kaifeng enjoyed itself as one of the largest and most profitable trading hubs along the Yellow River, even if it was destroyed and rebuilt on numerous occasions. After over a thousand years of prestige and wealth, it achieved its apex; it became the world's largest city under the Song Dynasty, serving as the Imperial Capital.

Alas, these past glories only highlight how far Kaifeng has fallen. Since the Jingkang Incident, when the Jin Dynasty and its Jurchen armies swept over the city and broke the back of the Song, the city has gradually fallen into irrelevancy, surpassed by even the apathetic people of Zhengzhou in modern times, not helped by the fact that the Nanjing government favors the latter city thanks to Kaifeng's legacy with the NCPC. While still the second largest city in Zhongyuan, much is needed to restore Kaifeng to its former glory, an unlikely event as Nanjing continues to ignore it.

However, some see this as a blessing in disguise; after all, the further the city slips into decline, the further it slips away from the prying eyes of Japan and its collaborators.
